People Management - Do you know your people?

During the last 6 years of my working i have been mostly involved in recruiment, launching processes (in a mobile industry and later in the BPO space), building teams. I can say positively that 70 % of my work time used to be spent on dealing with and managing people issues. I had earned good respect and regard in this aspect in both my previous organisations. After i moved out of my last company in Feb 2007 i had been talking to quite a few consultants and Senior management people in big organisations and they all agreed that getting resource with good people skills is a major challenge these days. At this point i thought of putting together a book with an intention of sharing with people 15 years of my work experience with special focus on the people management aspect. This book is privately released by Prism Management Consultants in Hyderabad.

Foreword of the book:

This book is a manager’s journey through his personal trials
and triumphs in the process of managing people over a decade.
It is not about management theories and concepts. It is about
the opportunities and possible pitfalls in the process of decision
making. The author has detailed through his personal
experience both success and failure in the process of managing
teams.
Its tricky business to make decisions regarding people since
there are human emotions attached to every decision you make.
Eliminating that risk is not possible but is that risk manageable?
Do we as managers make the right decisions or just the popular
ones? What seems cost effective prima-facie might end up a
cost intensive decision and what appears benign may cause
unrest and cries of bias in the rest of the team. This book is
about that human element of management explained lucidly
and with deep insight.
Also, the examples mentioned here are from various service
industries, this book however, is not only for service industry
as the principles mentioned here are applicable anywhere. I
would like to point out here though that this book is written
keeping the Indian sensibilities in mind.
